JAKARTA (JP): The South Jakarta District Court began trying a woman yesterday for allegedly cheating several stores by using a stolen credit card.
Prosecutor Elmalana said that Desi Puspitasari, 25, used a credit card belonging to Han M. Thio to buy a set of jewelry, shoes, a belt and a watch, causing City Bank financial losses of over Rp 7 million.
The defendant found Han's unsigned credit card on Jl. Pasir Putih in North Jakarta. She signed the City Bank credit card and used it to cheat several stores in the Blok M shopping complex in South Jakarta and at Plaza Indonesia in Central Jakarta.
The prosecutor said that Desi used the credit card on Sept. 8 last year to buy a bracelet, necklace, ring and earrings at the Romy store in Blok M. The jewelry was worth Rp 4,070,000. The defendant also bought shoes and a belt worth Rp 147,500 at Plaza Indonesia on the same day.
On Sept. 10 the defendant bought a bracelet worth Rp 3,177,000 at the New Sumatra store in Blok M.
She was caught on Sept. 26 as she attempted to buy a watch at Aldiron Plaza in Blok M.
City Bank rejected to authorize the sale after receiving Han's report that his credit card was missing.
City Bank asked the Aldiron Plaza management to confiscate the credit card and detain Desi.
The defendant violated article 263 of the Criminal Code, the prosecutor said.
Desi faces five years imprisonment if found guilty.(29)
