Woman tried for beating husband

MEDAN, North Sumatra: A 45-year-old teacher is on trial on charges of beating up her physically disabled husband who told her to end her love-affair with a bus driver.

Prosecutor Elijar said in the opening trial on Thursday that the elementary school teacher, whom Antara identified only as MR, hit her husband Mulia Tarigan in the face with a brush.

"The victims' lips and right eye were hurt in the assault," Elijar said.

The defendant was offended when the plaintiff told her to stop seeing the driver, Elijar said. Tarigan claimed he had repeatedly caught her in the act, both at home and outside.

Witnesses will be heard in two weeks. (pan)
