Incident sparks outrage as residents call for stronger safety measures at places of worship

A peaceful dawn prayer turned into a traumatic ordeal after a woman was sexually assaulted inside a mushola in Sagulung, Batam, raising concerns over safety even in sacred spaces.

Assault Occurs During Dawn Prayer

The incident took place at around 5.30am on March 16 at a mushola in Kavling Sagulung Baru, Batam.

The victim, a woman, was performing Subuh prayers alone in the designated women’s section when the assault occurred.

Suspect Entered Quietly

According to a witness, the suspect entered through the southern entrance of the mushola while the victim was still praying.

The perpetrator reportedly positioned himself behind the victim and waited for the right moment.

Attack Happened Mid-Prayer

The assault occurred when the victim rose from sujud and sat for the final tahiyat.

The suspect suddenly grabbed the victim from behind before fleeing the scene immediately after.

Victim Left in Shock

The victim was said to be deeply traumatised following the incident.

Residents expressed concern that such an act could occur in a place meant to be safe for worship.

Residents Urged to Stay Vigilant

Authorities and residents are calling for increased vigilance in the area.

Those with CCTV footage or information related to suspicious individuals during the time of the incident are urged to report to the police.

The case has sparked concern over safety in public and religious spaces, with the community hoping swift action will be taken to apprehend the suspect and prevent similar incidents.
