Woman quizzed for suspicious item

JAKARTA: The city police is still questioning a 25-year-old woman who was arrested on Saturday night at the Jakarta police headquarters carrying material suspiciously resembling a pipe bomb.

Eni, who was from Blora, Central Java, said that she was going to give the material to a police officer, reported city police spokesman Sr. Comr. Prasetyo on Monday. However, it turned out that the officer in question had gone AWOL and subsequently dismissed. The officer had been on duty in Aceh, Prasetyo was quoted by Antara as saying.

The police also arrested Tarmizi, the driver of the taxi that brought Eni to the police headquarters.

From the suspects, police seized two tubes measuring three centimeters in diameter and 10 centimeters in length, which contained some chemical powder and was equipped with a fuse. -- JP
