Woman Passenger Allegedly Sexually Harassed by Lecturer on Jakarta KRL Train
A woman was allegedly subjected to sexual harassment while boarding KRL Commuter Line train number 1530 on the Jakarta Kota–Nambo route from Tebet Station on Saturday, 14 March 2026 at approximately 21.01 Western Indonesia Time.
The incident was posted and went viral on Instagram account @jabodetabek24info. According to the post, the harassment occurred whilst the train was in the vicinity of Pancasila University Station and approaching the University of Indonesia Station.
The post also identified the alleged perpetrator as a lecturer at one of the campuses in South Tangerang. The incident was subsequently reported and handled by Metro Depok Police.
According to investigations, the victim boarded at Tebet Station, whilst the alleged perpetrator boarded at Tanjung Barat Station. Both were aboard KRL Commuter Line number 1530 on the Jakarta Kota–Nambo route.
“The perpetrator was removed at the University of Indonesia Station by on-train staff following a report and assistance from other passengers,” said Leza on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
KAI Commuter provided psychological support to the victim and assisted with the reporting process to Metro Depok Police for legal proceedings. As a preventive measure, KAI Commuter entered the alleged perpetrator’s face into their CCTV analytics database to enable detection by surveillance systems at stations and on board KRL trains.
“KAI Commuter urges all passengers to be mindful of their surroundings when using KRL, to speak up and report any form of sexual violence,” Leza added.
Metro Depok Police Chief of Public Relations AKP Made Budi confirmed receipt of the sexual harassment report. “There was a report, but it has been settled,” Made stated on Sunday.
