Woman loses Rp 250m in robbery

JAKARTA (JP): A woman was allegedly robbed of Rp 250 million (US$22,300) on Jl. Gunung Sahari Raya in Central Jakarta on Tuesday night while traveling home on a motorcycle driven by her son.

Sawah Besar Police subprecinct chief Comr. Mamat Surahmat said that the victim filed a complaint with police on Tuesday night.

The victim, Lidia Gunawan, 48, a manpower export agency director, together with her son, Hendra Winata, 20, were on their way home to Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, when an unidentified man on a Yamaha RX King motorcycle pulled alongside them and kicked their motorcycle.

"Their motorcycle reportedly fell and a bag, containing the money which Lidia was carrying, dropped from her hands. The robber reportedly grabbed the bag and took off," Mamat said.

The bag, according to Lidia's testimony, contained Rp 250 million, two cellphones and three automated teller machine (ATM) cards.

Mamat said that he was still investigating the case. (ylt)
