Woman killed as train hits bus

PROBOLINGGO, East Java: A woman was killed and 12 other
passengers injured -- six of them seriously -- when an inter-city
bus was hit by a passing train at a level crossing in Jrebeng
village, near here, yesterday.

Police said the woman's identity was not immediately known.
The injured people were treated at a local hospital.

Capt. Lunik Widodo, the head of the traffic police office,
told Antara news agency the bus should not have been on the road
because it is closed to such large vehicles.

But, he said, the bus driver told him that he wanted to drop
by his relative's house, which was nearby.

Lunik said the bus driver was not careful in crossing the
railway track intersection which does not have a gate. (16)
