Woman in Tangerang doused with acid while looking for a meal; suspect still at large

TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - In the Pasar Pagi Parung Kored area, a woman was subjected to an acid attack by an unknown assailant on Saturday evening (17 May 2026). At the time of the incident, the victim was reportedly returning from work and intending to eat nearby. A local resident, Siska (not her real name, 38), said that at the time she was inside her house.

“I was still inside, then heard a shout that someone was in pain,” Siska said when contacted at the scene on Tuesday (19 May 2026).

Out of curiosity, Siska went outside and saw the victim had run into a clothing store in the area. According to her, the victim then went straight to the bathroom while screaming in pain.

As a result of the attack, the victim sustained injuries to her face from the liquid. Moreover, the victim’s clothes were damaged and perforated by the liquid.

“Yeah, the clothes have holes, like they were on fire. So the shop gave her a replacement shirt,” she explained.

“Not long after, her parents arrived,” Siska added.

Siska suspects that prior to the incident there was a disturbance involving a group on motorcycles in the area. However, she admitted she did not know the exact chronology of the initial incident.
