Woman in Tangerang Attacked and Robbed of 65 Grammes of Gold After Dawn Meal
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Tangerang City Metro Police arrested a gold thief who used violence at a residence in the Neglasari district of Tangerang City. The suspect, identified as RS (32), robbed gold from the victim, Rusinem (62), through a violent attack.
Tangerang City Metro Police Chief Brigadier General Raden Muhammad Jauhari stated that the suspect acted alone, exploiting the emptiness of the victim’s residence near dawn time.
“The suspect entered the victim’s house quietly, then attacked the victim from behind and took the jewellery the victim was wearing,” said Jauhari in his statement on Wednesday (11/3/2026).
The theft occurred on Saturday (7/3). At that time, the victim and her child were eating their dawn meal at 03:30 WIB. After that, the victim’s child returned to her room to rest.
Then, around 04:00 WIB, the victim went to her room to prepare for dawn prayers. This is when the suspect carried out his crime.
“The suspect then got the idea to enter quietly. The suspect even took a cloth from the location to cover his face so he would not be recognised,” he said.
The suspect saw the victim was performing ablutions. Immediately, the suspect attacked from behind by covering the victim’s mouth and strangling her neck.
“The victim tried to resist. However, because she was outmatched in strength, the victim eventually fell and lost consciousness,” he said.
The suspect took the gold necklace, bracelet and ring worn by the victim. The total weight was approximately 65 grammes.
“The suspect also took cash of approximately 1.5 million rupiah that was inside the house,” he said.
The suspect fled by boarding public transport heading towards Serpong, then boarded a motorcycle taxi to his second wife’s house in Cilenggang, South Tangerang.
“We also involved the K9 Unit of Metro Jaya Regional Police to help track the suspect’s trail using scent sources from evidence found at the crime scene,” he said.
He explained that the tracking dog traced the route allegedly used by the suspect to residents’ houses around the crime location. As a result, police successfully identified the suspect and discovered his whereabouts.
The suspect was arrested by police on Monday (10/3), around 21:00 WIB, at a rented house in the Cisauk area, Tangerang Regency.
“The suspect who had fled was eventually apprehended after police conducted intensive investigation. The suspect is known as RS (32), a resident of Karangsari, Neglasari,” he explained.
The suspect admitted to selling all the jewellery from the theft at a gold shop in the Pasar Serpong area, South Tangerang. He sold it for 36 million rupiah.
“The suspect admitted to his second wife that the gold jewellery obtained was from his work as a debt collector, and the jewellery consisting of one necklace, two rings and three bracelets was sold by the suspect for approximately 36 million rupiah,” he said.
The proceeds from selling the stolen gold were used to rent a house in the Cisauk area with his second wife. In addition, the suspect purchased various items such as a fan, rice cooker, water dispenser, mobile phone and a motorcycle.
“Police then confiscated various items purchased from the proceeds of this crime as evidence,” he said.
Due to his actions, the suspect was charged under Article 479 of the Criminal Code covering theft with violence with a maximum prison sentence of nine years.
