Woman in Online Loan Debt Steals 300 Million Rupiah from Close Friend
Jakarta — Police arrested a 42-year-old woman with the initials DS after she stole approximately 300 million rupiah worth of valuables belonging to her close friend due to online loan debts.
Grogol Petamburan Police Precinct Head AKP Reza Aditya stated that the suspect carried out the thefts from September to December 2025 at the victim’s residence on Jalan Tanjung Duren Utara in West Jakarta.
“Approximately 300 million rupiah in material losses, in the form of jewellery and luxury goods,” Reza told reporters in Jakarta on Monday (9 March).
Reza explained that the suspect and victim had a close friendship and had known each other for a long time. The suspect exploited this closeness by duplicating the keys to her friend’s house.
“The suspect duplicated all the house keys. When the victim was not at home, the suspect entered the house and committed theft,” Reza said.
Initially, the victim suspected the missing valuables had been stolen by supernatural forces. However, she eventually became suspicious of people around her and installed CCTV cameras in her bedroom.
“The victim’s suspicions initially pointed towards something mystical. However, after installing CCTV in her home, it was finally revealed that the perpetrator was the suspect DS,” he said.
Based on the CCTV footage, police conducted an investigation and successfully apprehended the suspect on Friday (6 March).
During questioning, the victim asked the suspect why she had stolen from her, given that she had treated her friend so well.
“The suspect answered that precisely because the victim was so kind, that is why she committed the theft,” said AKP Alexander Tengbunan, Head of Criminal Investigation at Grogol Petamburan Police Precinct.
The suspect DS faces charges under Article 477 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years imprisonment.
