Woman Harassed on KRL Commuter Train Left in Tears; Perpetrator Confronted and Arrested
A video circulating on social media appears to show a woman becoming a victim of sexual harassment on the Jakarta Kota-Nambo KRL commuter train line. The perpetrator was subsequently apprehended by station security officers.
In the video, viewed on Wednesday (30/09/2026), the victim is seen sitting in a passenger seat, crying in fear and trembling. Other passengers on the train confronted and verbally abused the suspected perpetrator.
Leza Arlan, Public Relations Manager of KAI Commuter, stated that the incident occurred on Monday (28/09). Security officers initially received reports from passengers regarding the incident.
“Following up on the report, train security officers (pam walka) along with station security personnel immediately secured the suspect,” said Leza.
Subsequently, both the perpetrator and the victim were taken to the security post at Lenteng Agung Station. Following an investigation, the perpetrator admitted to his actions.
“We will not tolerate criminal acts, including sexual violence, on the Commuter Line or at our stations,” he added.
KAI Commuter expressed appreciation for the passengers who assisted and stood up against the case of sexual harassment. In the circulating video, a female passenger is seen confronting the perpetrator, while male passengers also expressed their anger by physically striking the suspect.
“KAI Commuter conveys its gratitude to other users who care for fellow passengers who become victims and immediately report the perpetrator’s actions to the officers,” he noted.
The company has also placed the perpetrator on a passenger blacklist. This measure was taken to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
“KAI Commuter also guarantees the safety of Commuter Line users. In relation to this sexual violence behaviour, we ensure that we will accompany the victim until they reach the relevant authorities,” he concluded.
