Woman from Malang Found Dead in Dorm Two Days After Hospital Discharge
LS, a 54-year-old woman from Malang, East Java, was found dead in her dormitory in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The victim was discovered lifeless just two days after being discharged from hospital following gallstone surgery.
Her body was found at Mekar Indah Dormitory on WR Monginsidi III Street, Pasir Panjang Village, Kota Lama District, around 10:00 AM WITA.
“Victim had just undergone gallstone surgery at Leona Hospital Kupang and was discharged on Monday, 25 May 2026, evening,” said Kota Lama Police Chief AKP Zainal Afirin Abdurahman.
Arifin explained LS was a resident of Argosari Hamlet, Argoyuwono Village, Ampelgading District, Malang Regency, East Java, and worked as a self-employed individual in Kupang.
The discovery began when two dorm neighbours, Nur Sahida (49) and Siti Saidah (47), went to borrow a water jug from LS’s room. They knocked on the door but received no response. Suspecting something was wrong, they tried opening the door.
The witnesses were shocked to find LS lying on the bed with her mouth open. Upon checking, her body was already cold.
The incident was reported to the dorm residents and owner before being escalated to Kota Lama Police Station. Police then conducted a crime scene investigation.
“According to witnesses, the victim frequently complained of stomach pain. Around 14 May 2026, a witness had accompanied her to Siloam Hospital for treatment,” Arifin said.
Additionally, LS had told several dorm neighbours she had been hospitalised at Kartini Hospital Kupang due to gallstones, before being referred to Leona Hospital for surgery.
After the crime scene investigation, LS’s body was transported to Titus Uly Bhayangkara Hospital in Kupang for autopsy. Following the autopsy, the body was handed over to the K2S Javanese Family Association in Kupang for burial arrangements.
The victim’s family reportedly could not travel to Kupang due to financial constraints.
“Based on witness statements and the victim’s condition upon discovery, it is suspected she died several hours before being found,” Arifin added.
