Woman found dead in motel room

JAKARTA (JP): The corpse of an unidentified woman was found in a motel room on Jl. RE Martadinata in Ancol, North Jakarta, by motel staff on Sunday night.

City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bahrul Alam said on Monday that police suspected the woman, whose corpse was found naked, had been assaulted.

"We are still awaiting identification of the woman. She had gone to stay at the motel with a man, on Saturday. She was supposed to check out of the motel on Sunday, but she hadn't," Anton told reporters on Monday.

"Curious motel staff kept banging on her door but nobody answered. Finally, they entered the room using the master key, and found the corpse."

Staff at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue said that forensic pathologists estimated the woman had been dead for at least two days.

"She was about 25 years old, weighed 50 kilograms, was 140 centimeters in height, and her body was badly bruised," a staff member at the morgue said. (ylt)
