Woman faces 15 years for fish bombs
BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: A 45-year old woman, Hamidah, has been
charged with assembling bombs that were to be used for fishing
and could face 15 years in prison if found guilty.
Prosecutor Rukiyah told the Tanjung Karang District Court on
Thursday that the defendant was guilty of violating Emergency Law
No. 12/1951 on the possession of explosives.
Hamidah was found in the possession of a number of bombs used
for fishing without proper permits from the authorities, the
prosecutor said.
The defendant was arrested on Sept. 7 in her house in the town
of Kota Karang, Bandarlampung, a day after a bomb explosion
damaged several homes in the area.
Judge Manalu Rambe, who is presiding over the trial, adjourned
the hearing until Feb. 14, at which time the court will hear
testimony from witnesses. --Antara
