The case of same-sex marriage involving a woman with initials IA (28) in Malang City, East Java, is suspected not to be mere identity fraud but also indicative of human trafficking (TPPO). This is because the victim was invited by her ‘husband’ named ‘Rey’ to travel to Cambodia. Reported by detikJatim on Wednesday (8/4/2026), these suspicions emerged after it was found that before the marriage took place, IA was asked by Rey to urgently prepare international travel documents. The reason given was that Rey wanted her to accompany him abroad for medical treatment. ‘We are also concerned about other indications, because before the marriage, the victim was asked to make a passport to be taken to Cambodia under the pretext of getting treatment. This is what makes us suspicious, especially since such cases are now rampant,’ said the victim’s companion, Eko NS, when met. This case has also been reported to the Malang City Police. The victim reported the perpetrator on suspicion of falsifying identity documents. The victim also asked the police to investigate the perpetrator’s motives regarding the passport request. The Head of Criminal Investigation at Malang City Police, AKP Rahmad Aji Prabowo, confirmed that the Criminal Investigation team is working intensively to thoroughly investigate this matter, including exploring all possible criminal aspects. ‘The report has indeed been received. Currently, the case is being further investigated to ensure the existing criminal elements,’ emphasised AKP Rahmad Aji Prabowo.
