JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - JSLP (20), the woman who was secured by police for allegedly attempting to commit suicide in front of the Merdeka Palace gate in Gambir, Central Jakarta, turned out to be a victim of sexual harassment.

The Head of the Women’s and Children’s Protection and Anti-Human Trafficking Criminal Investigation Unit (PPA and PPO), Metro Jakarta Central Police Resort, Kompol Rita Oktavia, stated that JSLP experienced the harassment in Central Jakarta in 2023.

“She had previously filed a report with the PPA unit regarding sexual harassment. However, the case was dropped because the perpetrator took responsibility by marrying her,” Rita said when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

Rita explained that JSLP’s family and the perpetrator’s family agreed at the time to marry the two at the Tegal Religious Affairs Office (KUA) in Central Java.

After the marriage, the couple lived in Central Sulawesi. However, JSLP returned to Jakarta because she was allegedly a victim of domestic violence (KDRT).

It is suspected that JSLP carried a very heavy psychological burden related to her marriage when she returned to Jakarta, which triggered depression.

“Perhaps in Central Sulawesi or during the marriage, something happened, and there was an incident of domestic violence. In the end, she (JSLP) returned to Jakarta,” Rita continued.

Meanwhile, JSLP’s husband is still in Buol Regency, Toli-Toli, Central Sulawesi.

According to Rita, her team is currently attempting to communicate with JSLP’s husband.

“So, the handling is like that, resolved through communication first,” Rita stated.

Previously reported, JSLP was secured by police for allegedly attempting suicide in front of the Merdeka Palace gate on Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Central Jakarta, on Sunday night (22/3/2026).

The incident began when a member of the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) on duty at post 02 of the Palace noticed a woman acting suspiciously around 23:35 WIB.

The Paspampres member then approached the woman.

“When approached, the woman’s bag was already on the ground, and her shoes were off. The member then reported to the Post Commander,” Rita said.
