Woman Assaulted by Man at Sermo Reservoir After Reprimanding Him for Staring

A woman with the initials YR (33) was assaulted by a man with the initials A (43) in the Sermo Reservoir area, Kapanewon Kokap, Kulon Progo. The trigger was that the man took offence after being reprimanded by the victim, who felt uncomfortable because he kept staring at her.

Head of Public Relations of the Kulon Progo Police, First Inspector Sarjoko, said the incident occurred on Thursday (27/8) at 12.00 WIB.

“On Thursday, 27 August 2026, at around 09.00 WIB, the victim went to the hospital for treatment. After finishing her treatment, she went to Sermo Reservoir by motorbike, precisely below the four-way intersection, to enjoy the natural scenery,” said Sarjoko when contacted by detikJogja on Friday (28/8/2026).

While below the four-way intersection, the victim intended to pick up a branch or twig. The perpetrator, who was also riding a motorbike, then stopped not far from the victim.

“When she was about to pick up a twig, the perpetrator, who was also using a motorbike, stopped not far from the victim while eating cilok and staring at the victim continuously,” he said.

As a result, the victim felt uncomfortable and approached the perpetrator.

“She said, ‘Mas, if you look at me, please don’t do it like that.’ Suddenly the perpetrator immediately punched the victim,” said Sarjoko.

The victim’s condition and follow-up actions are still under police investigation.

“Further information will be provided,” he concluded.
