Woman arrested with fake money

BOGOR: Police arrested a woman who was carrying Rp 5.3 million in counterfeit money in front of a bank on Monday, after the woman's behavior aroused suspicion.

Thirty-six-year-old Ati, a Sukabumi resident was arrested at the Lippo Bank parking lot in Jl. Juanda, and later admitted to police that she was told to deliver the counterfeit money by a man named Eddy whom she met at the Cianjur bus station.

Bogor chief of detectives, Comr. Edi S. Tambunan, said that in her confession the suspect was promised a Rp 300,000 fee from Eddy after she delivered the package to a man who was to be waiting for her in front of the Sempur field, which is located next to the Lippo Bank building, at 5:30 p.m.

"When the officers spotted her looking wary and anxious in the parking lot, they suspected she was a drug dealer and promptly stopped her for questioning," Edi said.

Ati admitted that she was aware that she was carrying counterfeit money.

"I know the envelope contains counterfeit money because when Eddy handed it to me, he told me to be careful when carrying the counterfeit money," Ati told reporters. --JP
