Woman arrested over drug
JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta police detectives have arrested a 44-year old woman believed to have acted as a large-scale distributor of marijuana, delivered from Aceh on the northern tip of Sumatra.
Head of the police precinct Lt. Col. Murawi Effendi told reporters yesterday that the suspect, identified as Roslina Situmorang, was arrested in a raid at her house on Jl. Kayumas III No. 9, Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta, at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, after two months of surveillance.
Police also seized 2.5 kilograms of marijuana and scales at the house, which she uses as her headquarters.
Two of her accomplices, identified as Ombun and Eli, are still at large.
According to Maj. Charles Marpaung, head of the police crimes investigation unit, who accompanied Murawi, Roslina could earn Rp 57.6 million (US$26,360) per month selling Marijuana.
"Every week she could supply three kilograms of marijuana. Her profit would be Rp 4.8 million for each kilogram," he said.
Murawi said that Roslina only supplied her illegal merchandise to her loyal traffickers, who then sell it to their contacts in such places as pubs and nightclubs, in and around the city.
The arrest of Roslina was made after police were informed of a transaction of half a kilo of marijuana at the Top One nightclub on Sept. 23. (bsr)
