Woman arrested for visa violation

JAKARTA (JP): Immigration authorities apprehended a German woman on Thursday for allegedly violating the terms of her visa, an official said here.

Magdalene Christine, who possessed a business visa, was caught in the act while handing out leaflets near the Malaysian embassy in Kuningan, South Jakarta, for the purpose of recruiting Indonesian people to market weight-loss products, according to Lukmiardi, the head of the Immigration Control Unit at the Directorate General of Immigration.

He said Magdalene, whose trip to Indonesia was sponsored by PT Realistindo Pramata, had attempted to escape when immigration officers arrived at the scene.

Handing out leaflets was not covered by her business visa, he said.

Her husband, Ulrich Rittinghaus, is also being investigated for the same violation, Lukmiardi said.

"Both of them have admitted they were in the wrong for distributing promotional literature," Lukmiardi said. (04)
