Woman Arrested After Burning Boyfriend in Jayapura Hotel Over Lack of Communication
A woman identified as YA (32) has assaulted and burnt her boyfriend, YM (34), in a hotel room in Jayapura City, Papua. The suspect set her boyfriend alight because she was upset that the victim failed to inform her after returning from work.
“The suspect with initials YA has been secured and is currently detained at Abepura Police Station detention facility to undergo legal proceedings in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Abepura Police Chief Kompol Yulianus Samberi.
The incident occurred at a hotel in Abepura District, Jayapura City, on Sunday, 8 March. The incident began when the victim, who had recently returned from his workplace, did not immediately go home to meet the suspect, his girlfriend.
“The victim is known to have just arrived from Oksibil, but did not go straight home to meet the suspect. This made the suspect upset and she then searched for the victim at several locations, including at the victim’s family home and the homes of his acquaintances,” he explained.
After conducting a search, the suspect found the victim in a hotel room in the Abepura area. Upon meeting, the two became involved in a quarrel that ultimately resulted in the victim being set on fire.
“The suspect found the victim at a hotel in the Abepura area, and then a quarrel broke out between them. In an emotional state, the suspect then committed the act of burning the victim,” Yulianus clarified.
The victim sustained burns covering 50.5% of various parts of his body. The victim remains undergoing intensive care at the hospital.
