Woman Allegedly Harassed on Jakarta-Depok Commuter Train, KCI Vows Action
A woman was allegedly sexually harassed on a KRL commuter train travelling from Jakarta Kota to Depok. The victim’s sister, identified as IR, stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening and left her sister traumatised and momentarily frozen. IR took to social media to share a video of the alleged perpetrator, urging the public to help identify him. “This is inhumane. Please, anyone who knows this person, let me know. He harassed my sister on the KRL until she froze and couldn’t do anything,” IR wrote on her Threads account. According to IR, her sister got off the train at Lenteng Agung Station immediately after the incident. The alleged perpetrator is suspected of rubbing his genitals against the victim. The social media post quickly went viral, with netizens condemning the recurring issue of sexual harassment on public transport. IR confirmed that her sister has filed a report with KAI Commuter at Depok Station and is gathering evidence. A police report has also been lodged. Responding to the post, KAI Commuter expressed regret over the incident and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment. “KAI Commuter deeply regrets and does not tolerate any form of sexual harassment. Every report we receive will be followed up according to procedure, and we will take firm action against proven violators. Thank you for your concern in helping to create a safe and comfortable travel environment,” the operator stated.
