Jakarta (ANTARA) - Technology company WiTricity has introduced a wireless charging solution for small electric vehicles, including golf carts.

According to a report by Electrek on Saturday (14/2), WiTricity’s new technology is more accurately described as a “plug-free” solution rather than wireless, as official promotional images show a cable connecting the charging pad to a standard 110/120V power outlet.

The magnetic induction-based charging technology enables automatic battery charging when a vehicle is parked on the pad’s surface, without requiring any cables or direct physical connection to the vehicle. However, the pad itself remains connected to a power source via a cable to a standard 110/120 volt outlet.

According to WiTricity, the MR/1 solution not only eliminates the need for cables but also reduces the risk of accidents caused by cables strewn across parking areas.

WiTricity AI Tech CEO Joe Benz stated that the MR/1 solution is available in 600-watt and 900-watt variants. The 600-watt variant is intended for vehicle charging at golf courses and environments requiring lower investment costs, whilst the 900-watt version serves as a charging option for vehicles that require greater power.

The device can be programmed to charge during hours when electricity tariffs are at their lowest and automatically stops when the vehicle’s battery is fully charged.

The wireless charging technology solution is expected to facilitate charging of small electric vehicles and encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles.
