Witnesses Note Removal of High Fencing at Kota Kasablanka Mall

The high fence that was previously installed at the Kota Kasablanka Mall, or Kokas, in South Jakarta has now been dismantled. Local residents reported that the fence was no longer visible as of this morning.

Local resident Hamdan stated that he still saw the fence at the Kota Kasablanka mall on Saturday (1/8/2026) at approximately 10:00 PM WIB. However, when he went out to trade this morning, the fence was gone. “It was still there last night when I was returning from trading, but this morning when I left, it was no longer there,” Hamdan said when encountered near the location on Sunday (2/8).

Another resident, Zaidin Santoso, shared a similar account, stating that he saw the fence standing at 11:00 PM. He noted that the fence had been installed for a week and expressed that the mall looks better without the high barrier. He suggested that the installation might have been a response to certain social media rumours regarding unrest.

The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, had previously highlighted the high fences being installed at several malls in Jakarta. Observations at the site on Sunday (2/8) confirmed that the iron fencing at the front of the mall has been removed, and the area has returned to its original state. Traces of the fence post foundations remain visible, though mall visitors appear to be conducting activities as normal.
