Police raided the Little Aresha childcare centre in Sorosutan, Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, due to suspicions of child abuse. One parent whose child was enrolled at the daycare, Noorman, claimed that around a dozen people from the management to the caregivers were taken into custody by the police for questioning.

“All of them, about 17 people, they say. Last night I was at the police station until midnight; they were all still being interrogated,” Noorman told detikJogja on Saturday (24/4/2026).

He explained that the individuals taken were internal to the daycare, from administrators to caregivers. Meanwhile, he did not see any other residents being detained in the process.

“As for some residents, I didn’t see them, but last night it was all from the administrators and caregivers,” he clarified.

Separately, the Head of the Women and Children Services Unit (PPA), Ipda Apri Sawitri, stated that the investigation process is still underway. Further details will be provided later.

“Not yet; we will hold a case review first before we can update,” she said via text message.

It was previously reported that police raided a childcare centre in Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, related to allegations of abuse against the children entrusted there. Police set up a cordon at the location and are examining related parties.

When asked for confirmation, the Head of Criminal Investigation at Polresta Jogja, Kompol Riski Adrian, confirmed the raid.

“True, the Criminal Investigation Unit of Polresta Jogja conducted a raid on a childcare centre in the Umbulharjo area just yesterday (Friday) afternoon,” Adrian said when contacted by reporters on Saturday (25/4/2026).

Adrian stated that they suspect certain daycare managers of committing acts of abuse against the entrusted children. The case is currently in the investigation stage.

“It is strongly suspected of committing a criminal act of treating a child discriminatorily or placing, allowing, involving, or ordering the involvement of a child in situations of improper treatment and neglect or violence against a child,” he concluded.
