Witness in Pati Regent Corruption Case Claims Intimidation During KPK Questioning

A witness in the alleged corruption case of inactive Pati Regent Sudewa, Nur Widayat, has claimed he was pressured during questioning by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators during the drafting of the official investigation report (BAP).

“I was pressured, because I was questioned from morning until night. Not to mention when someone banged the table,” Nur Widayat said while testifying at the Semarang Corruption Court on Monday.

During the hearing, witness Nur Widayat denied several contents of the BAP, particularly those relating to the giving of money to Sudewa. One of the witness’s statements that differed from the BAP concerned the handover of IDR 721 million from a contractor implementing the JGSS 6 project within the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation.

Witness Benard claimed to have handed over money in a package to Nur Widayat. However, this statement was refuted by Nur Widayat, who claimed he never received any money from witness Benard. Another statement that also differed from the BAP concerned the giving of a kris to the defendant Sudewa. Nur Widayat, in the trial presided over by Chief Judge Edwin Pudyono, also claimed he never gave a kris to Sudewa.

Witness Nur Widayat’s testimony was confirmed by defendant Sudewa during the trial. Sudewa also denied receiving USD 450,000 from witness Nur Widayat, which was referred to as a fee from the JGSM project at the Surabaya Railway Engineering Centre. He stated that the US dollar currency seized by the KPK from him must be proven to be the same money allegedly given by Nur Widayat.

Additionally, Sudewa is charged with receiving IDR 2.4 billion in connection with the filling of village apparatus positions in the regency during the 2025 to 2026 period.
