Witness amuses the public
SERANG, West Java (JP): A construction worker testifying in
court on a criminal case, entertained the public this week with
his wildly inaccurate account of the event.
Suparta, 40, was testifying on the alleged assault of a bus
terminal project manager, Dedi Subandi, by a school teacher and
former regency official.
The witness claimed he clearly saw one of the men who attacked
the defendant because he was standing "only" six meters from the
scene. He said the attacker wore a pink shirt, Antara reported.
When Judge Soekartono asked him if he recognized the attacker,
Suparta -- to the public's thunderous laughter -- pointed to the
defendant's defense lawyer.
"The incident happened at 10 minutes past 10 a.m. Your Honor,"
he told the judge.
"Did you look at your watch then?" the judge asked.
"No Your Honor, I did not have one," Suparta replied. (pan)
