Without AI Manipulation, This Is the Face of the Perpetrators Who Threw Acid on KontraS Activist Andrie Yunus
Metro Jaya Police have officially unveiled the faces of two suspected executors in the acid attack on KontraS Vice Coordinator Andrie Yunus. This identification was obtained by investigators through a thorough examination of CCTV recordings before and during the incident on 12 March 2026.
According to police data, the two executors are known by the initials BHC and MAK. However, the police have not yet disclosed detailed identities of the two perpetrators.
CCTV footage shows that on the afternoon of the incident, the perpetrators were captured moving towards the YLBHI office in Central Jakarta. At that location, the victim was attending a podcast event. Their faces are clearly visible as they were not wearing masks or any other face coverings.
“At 16:32 on the same day, the perpetrator passed by without wearing a helmet, dressed in a blue batik shirt,” stated the Director of Reskrimum at Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin.
In his statement, Commissioner Iman emphasised that the photos and videos of the perpetrators’ faces held by the police are genuine field data. He assured that there was no technological manipulation in this visual identification process.
“This is the result of footage captured from CCTV that we have obtained. We emphasise to all colleagues that no changes or processing have been made, so we can be accountable that this is not the result of Artificial Intelligence,” Iman stressed.
Based on the recordings, the first suspected perpetrator is seen wearing a blue batik shirt, while the second perpetrator is wearing a dark long-sleeved T-shirt. The second perpetrator, strongly suspected of being the one who threw the chemical liquid, was recorded removing his shirt while fleeing because he was also splashed with the hazardous substance.
Overall, the police suspect a total of four perpetrators involved in this attack, where they acted using two motorcycles on Thursday (12/3) in Jalan Salemba, Jakarta.
“It is not impossible that there are more than four perpetrators,” Iman said.
This tragic incident occurred right after Andrie Yunus finished hosting a podcast at the YLBHI office discussing crucial issues themed ‘Remilitarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia’.
As a result of the attack, Andrie Yunus suffered serious burns covering 24%. The chemical liquid damaged areas of his right and left hands, chest, face, and eyes, which continue to require intensive medical treatment.
