With Viewpoints Available, Do Not Stop or Park on the Side of JJLS Curve 23!
The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Police has constructed one of two monitoring posts at Curve 2lag. This monitoring post will function to ensure that no motorists stop or park on the roadside of the Curve 23 route.
“As this is a national road, stopping, let alone parking, along Curve 23 is prohibited,” said the Head of the Sub-directorate of Security and Safety of the DIY Police Traffic Directorate, AKBP Widya Mustikaningrum, to reporters in Kretek, Bantul, on Monday (14/09/2026).
Widya also urged road users passing through Curve 23 to prioritise driving safety, particularly as the route consists of 23 bends. She noted that motorists have been provided with rest areas and viewpoints to enjoy the surrounding scenery, meaning there is no need to stop or park motorcycles on the roadside.
Furthermore, the authorities have established one monitoring post near the Kretek four-way intersection. Plans are in place to build another monitoring post at one of the Curve 23 rest areas.
“God willing, there will eventually be two. One is already at the zero point or the Kretek intersection. There will also be one at the rest area, which we will use alongside stakeholders as a place for coordination and to monitor security, safety, order, and traffic flow,” she said.
Moving forward, the Bantul and Gunungkidul District Police, together with local Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers, will conduct regular monitoring, as Curve 23 spans across both regencies.
Widya added that the DIY Police Traffic Directorate is currently coordinating with the traffic forum to mitigate and record street lighting that is currently non-functional. “Some have been repaired, but because the tree canopy is still too dense, it obstructs light from reaching the road surface. Therefore, we are currently working with PJN, the Bantul Environmental Agency, and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to trim the tree branches,” she said.
One-Week Trial Period
The Head of the DIY PJN Work Unit, Tisara Sita, revealed that this trial period for Curve 23 is intended to assess safety and comfort aspects for road users. Consequently, during this trial open traffic phase, the road will not be open 24 hours a day.
“The Curve 23 trial is being conducted for seven days, from 14 to 20 September 2026. The trial runs from 06:00 to 18:00 WIB, and only motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles are permitted to pass,” said Tisara.
Tisara continued, noting that heavy vehicles are temporarily prohibited from passing. This restriction is implemented because there is still ongoing follow-up work on the final section of this new road.
“This restriction is part of our effort to maintain the safety of both road users and the workers still performing tasks in the field,” she said.
Therefore, Tisara requested that motorists comply with the regulations during the trial open traffic period, which includes following traffic signs and instructions from officers on the ground.
“An evaluation of the Curve 23 trial implementation will be conducted on 21 September 2026. The results of this evaluation will serve as a basis for determining the next steps regarding the full operation of Curve 23,” she concluded.
