On Friday, 6 March 2026, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, the Minister of Home Affairs and chair of the PRR Task Force for Sumatra, conducted an on-site review of a temporary shelter site in Pidie Jaya, Aceh. He was accompanied by Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf and Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah, and together they inspected several facilities at the huntara and spoke with the evacuees.

Tito explained that the huntara in Pidie Jaya are categorised into four types: those built by BPI Danantara; those initiated by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB); those erected by the Ministry of Public Works (PU); and those established through mutual aid by civil society organisations (ormas) and volunteers. He noted differences in the facilities among the four types. “For example, at the BNPB site there are no beds, but it has its own kitchen and a private toilet. Danantara is similar to PU: there are beds and fans, making it cooler and more comfortable, but the kitchen and toilet, and bathrooms, are communal,” Tito said.

Although facilities vary, the government has ensured that evacuees receive dignified and comfortable housing. He emphasised that the government is speeding up the relocation of refugees from tents to huntara or more durable housing under the Dana Tunggu Hunian (DTH) scheme before Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

From the data he has, among the three provinces affected in Sumatra, only West Sumatra has not yet any tent evacuees. “This is our target with BNPB yesterday: all would be in huntara, and for food, BNPB will cover ten days. After that we will use the lauk pauk funds, and Jadup (daily allowances) from the Ministry of Social Affairs,” Tito affirmed.

Attending the site visit were Bupati Pidie Jaya Sibral Malasyi, Director General of Regional Administration Safrizal ZA of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and other relevant officials.
