With Sexual Violence on the Rise, PKB to Hold National Islamic Boarding School Forum Next Week
“Over the past few weeks, PKB has received numerous requests, complaints, and expressions of concern from many Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia regarding various cases of sexual violence,” said the Chairman of the National Islamic Boarding School Forum Committee, Nihayatul Wafiroh, at the PKB headquarters in Jakarta, Friday (15/5/2026).
The event will be held on 18-19 May at the Grand Mercure Kemayoran, Jakarta, with the theme ‘Movement of Islamic Boarding Schools Against Sexual Violence’. Approximately 250 Islamic boarding schools have been invited.
“We are inviting around 250 Islamic boarding schools, and there may be more as we continue to receive requests from many Islamic boarding schools to join,” he said.
“Because we need a place, all Islamic boarding schools need a place to share their experiences, the psychological conditions of those affected, and to find solutions together,” he added.
He said that many parties at the Islamic boarding schools are still confused about how to handle cases of sexual violence, both in terms of handling and legal procedures.
“They may also not know how to resolve the cases or what the legal procedures are. This requires collaboration from all parties,” he said.
A number of parties, such as the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Police, and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), will also be involved in the forum. He said that this is to jointly seek solutions to the many cases of sexual violence in Islamic boarding schools.
“Because this is very important, we hope that all elements, including the government, can work together to find solutions,” he said. (ial/amw)
