With Rain Potential, Pramono Orders Jakarta Weather Modification for Tomorrow

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has ordered the resumption of weather modification operations (OMC) in Jakarta tomorrow. Pramono said there is potential cloud cover that could be utilised for the OMC.

“If there are no clouds, it is impossible to carry out OMC. In conducting OMC, for example this coming Friday, there will be clouds again. I have ordered that for Friday, because there are clouds, preparations should be made immediately for a flight tomorrow,” Pramono said in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, on Thursday (20/8/2026).

Pramono said the implementation of OMC does not guarantee that rain will definitely fall after seeding is carried out. He noted that the Jakarta Provincial Government has previously conducted several flights for OMC, but they have not always produced rain.

“Now, if it is flown, whether rain occurs or not is not a guarantee. We have flown many times and there was no rain,” he said.

Nevertheless, Pramono believes the effort still needs to be made when weather conditions permit. He said OMC is one of the endeavours to optimise rain potential.

“That rain is God’s creation, I certainly agree it is God’s creation. But if there is no effort made towards it, I think that is also not good,” he explained.

Pramono said that, based on weather forecasts, there is potential for drizzle tomorrow. He therefore hopes the OMC can help increase rainfall intensity without causing flooding.

“The weather forecast also predicts there will be drizzle. It would be better if the drizzle is enhanced with salt or whatever it may be, so that it becomes heavier rain that benefits the community. The most important thing is that it does not cause flooding, that is all,” he added.
