With Protection in Place, Demak Fishermen Can Sail More Safely
The northern coastal region of Central Java, particularly Demak Regency, possesses immense potential in the marine and fisheries sector, serving as a primary economic driver for coastal communities. According to 2025 data from the Demak Regency Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP), marine fishery production reached IDR 116.2 billion, while aquaculture production reached IDM 274.6 billion. This significant potential makes Demak’s fisheries a strategic sector requiring sustainable business protection for fishermen and industry players.
Recognising this potential, PT Asuransi Kredit Indonesia (Askrindo) Semarang Branch Office has signed a Micro-Marine Insurance cooperation agreement with the Demak Regency Government, Central Java Province. This strategic move is designed to provide protection for fishermen, specifically owners of small to medium-sized wooden boats and vessels. The signing ceremony was conducted by the Branch Manager of Askrindo Semarang, Gami Aji Libraga, and the Head of the Demak Regency Marine and Fisheries Office, Nanang Tasunar DN, at the Fisheries Office Hall.
As a protection solution, Askrindo Business Director Budhi Novianto stated that this partnership is expected to serve as a safety net for Demak’s fishermen, who have long required security guarantees for the wooden boats and vessels used for fishing. “Through this cooperation, we hope that thousands of fishermen in Demak Regency will receive optimal protection, particularly for small to medium-scale boats, allowing them to carry out their daily activities with greater safety and peace of mind,” said Budhi.
Budhi added that the partnership holds significant business potential, as Demak Regency is home to approximately 5,254 fishing vessels and 10,500 fishermen. Askrindo Semarang Branch Manager Gami Aji Libraga also noted that this collaboration is a strategic step for Askrindo to expand insurance coverage within the marine and fisheries sector, which plays a vital role in supporting regional economic resilience. “The cooperation with the Demak Marine and Fisheries Office is expected to provide a sense of security for fishermen in their business activities, while simultaneously opening opportunities to develop other insurance services tailored to the needs of coastal communities,” added Gami.
In addition to the signing ceremony, Askrindo conducted a socialisation programme for Demak fishermen to provide an understanding of the benefits of general and micro-insurance products for the marine and fisheries sector. Looking ahead, it is hoped that this collaboration will expand to include various other insurance products, such as ‘Asuransi Mikro Usahaku’ for MSMEs involved in fishery processing, Fisherman Insurance (PA Nelayan), and other protection products.
