With PNM Mekaar, Veronika Reni Builds a Better Future for Her Child

Since joining PNM Mekaar in 2020, Veronika Reni, a woman who supports her family from a vegetable garden, has never stopped believing that if she can persevere, her daughter Citra will not have to repeat her struggles. Today, Citra is in the sixth grade at SD Inpres Wae Moto and has consistently ranked first in her class for five consecutive years. For Veronika, every report card Citra brings home is proof that her hard work is not in vain. Before joining PNM Mekaar, Veronika was one of many women in remote parts of Indonesia who knew the pain of wanting the best for their children but being constrained by limited capital. When PNM Mekaar first entered Kampung Wae Moto, Veronika was the first to raise her hand, becoming the village’s first client—a decision she made not for herself, but for Citra. “The most important thing is that my child can get a good education and have a better future than mine,” Veronika said. PNM President Director Kindaris stated that the success of empowerment is measured not only by business growth but also by the educational opportunities afforded to the clients’ children. This commitment is realised through the PNM Scholarship 2026, which has awarded educational grants to 1,590 children of active Mekaar and ULaMM clients, spanning from primary school to university level. Citra is among the scholarship recipients, easing the financial burden on her mother. The story of Veronika and Citra reflects the reality of millions of underprivileged households across Indonesia, where mothers refuse to give up and their children become living proof of that choice. On the occasion of National Children’s Day 2026, PNM affirmed that supporting underprivileged women means simultaneously supporting their children’s futures, ensuring that when a mother gains access and trust to develop, her child gains a greater chance to dream, learn, and achieve a better life.
