With Mineral Potential and Large Market, Indonesia Must Seize Opportunities
Member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Moreno Soeprapto, is encouraging the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM to capitalise on changes in the global automotive industry supply chain to attract manufacturing investment to Indonesia. According to him, Indonesia possesses the mineral resource potential and market size necessary to serve as capital for building an automotive industry ecosystem, particularly for electric vehicles (EV) and hybrids.
This was stated by Moreno while attending a Working Meeting of Commission XII of the DPR RI with the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM, Rosan P. Roeslani, at the Nusantara I Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (1/9/2026). Based on his observations, geopolitical dynamics and changes in global supply chains present opportunities for Indonesia to strengthen its position as one of the automotive production bases in the region.
Furthermore, the Gerindra Party politician explained that these investment opportunities must be directed to provide added value to the national economy. He urged that Indonesia should not rely solely on the domestic market as an investment drawcard, but must also be capable of encouraging investors to establish production facilities and industrial ecosystems within the country.
