The family of Ermanto Usman, the victim of a tragic murder in Bekasi, has formally applied for protection from the Witness and Victims Protection Agency (LPSK). The application was submitted in person, accompanied by Rieke Diah Pitaloka, a member of the DPR RI’s XIII Commission, and a representative of the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) Workers Union.

LPSK Chairman Brig. Gen. Pol. (Ret.) Achmadi said the agency had received the application and had already taken initial steps by coordinating with the law enforcement unit handling the case. ‘In relation to the case that occurred in Bekasi a few days ago, in short, LPSK has taken initial steps to coordinate with the unit handling it,’ Achmadi told reporters at the LPSK office on Thursday 5 March 2026.

He stressed that the case must be handled properly with an approach based on scientific crime investigation. ‘Of course, we all hope this case will be addressed and uncovered using a precise and scientifically based investigation. This is important to uncover a case accurately,’ he said.

Achmadi also ensured that every protection application received would be followed up. ‘Protection requests that come to LPSK will be followed up and LPSK is ready to provide protection, uphold rights, and offer support to witnesses and/or victims in accordance with applicable rules,’ he explained.

Meanwhile, Rieke Diah Pitaloka said her visit to LPSK was to accompany the victim’s family to obtain state protection, particularly for the children who are traumatised. ‘I am Rieke Diah Pitaloka, a member of DPR RI’s Commission VI and also the Chairwoman of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers, which includes the Federation of Port Workers of Indonesia, within which the JICT Workers Union sits. Ermanto is a retiree from JICT who also belonged to the broader JICT Workers Union family,’ she said.

‘I was accompanied by the leadership of the JICT Union and the victim’s legal counsel this morning to seek protection for the family. We are seeking clinical and psychological assessments for the two children from LPSK, particularly because the youngest was at the scene at the time of the incident,’ she added.
