With IB Curriculum, Elite Police High School Plans to Admit Foreign Students
SMA Kemala Taruna Bhayangkara (SMA KTB) has the opportunity to admit foreign students during the New Student Admission System (SPMB) for the 202/2028 academic year. This move is driven by the implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and the availability of comprehensive educational facilities.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Nation Cadre Education Foundation (YPKBI), Dirgayuza Setiawan, during an audience with the Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner General Pol. Dedi Prasetyo, at the National Police Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (16/09/2026).
“SMA KTB is a high school with the IB international curriculum, featuring facilities that are equivalent to, or even superior to, international schools in Indonesia,” said Dirgayuza in a statement.
According to Dirgayuza, the implementation of the IB curriculum also opens opportunities for SMA KTB to accept foreign nationals (WNA) across various grade levels. The presence of international students is expected to strengthen SMA KTB’s position as a leading school and provide a cross-cultural educational experience for Indonesian students.
Consequently, during discussions with the Deputy Chief of Police, a plan was proposed to open a special track for foreign students, particularly the children of police diplomats or police attachés currently serving in Indonesia. This is seen as an initial step toward building an increasingly international educational ecosystem.
Plans for admitting foreign students are currently in the preparation stage. Before implementation, several steps are required, including adjustments to the foundation’s articles of association, foundation decisions, fulfilment of regulatory and administrative requirements, selection mechanisms, and school operational readiness.
Head of Public Relations for the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Pol. Johnny Eddizon Isir, stated that the internationalisation of SMA KTB will be carried out gradually, ensuring institutional and educational readiness. He noted that there is an opportunity to open admissions for international students starting from the third cohort (Angkatan III).
He emphasised that internationalisation should not compromise national identity. “Accepting foreign students does not mean abandoning our identity. Character, national values, Pancasila, and the spirit of service to Indonesia must remain the foundation of education at SMA KTB,” he said.
SMA KTB is a boarding school established through the initiative of the Chief of National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, as part of the police force’s contribution to developing superior human resources towards ‘Indonesia Emas 2045’. Currently, 296 students from the first and second cohorts are enrolled in the boarding programme.
The educational process focuses not only on academic achievement but also on character development, leadership, critical thinking, science, technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), coding, digital literacy, foreign language proficiency, and global outlook. SMA KTB officially obtained the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) certificate on 11 June 2026, integrating the IB curriculum with the National Curriculum.
To support this 21st-century learning ecosystem, the campus features 24 classrooms, laboratories, a library, a theatre, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a football field, a dining hall, and male and female dormitories.
Furthermore, the development of SMA KTB is accompanied by institutional strengthening through the Kemala Taruna Bhayangkara Higher Education Institute (LP-KTB). The Deputy Chief of Police has encouraged the drafting of a Blueprint, Handbook, and Grand Strategy for the school to guide long-term development, covering governance, curriculum, human resources, and internationalisation strategies. Operational management via LP-KTB is targeted to begin gradually in 2027.
Meanwhile, preparations for the third cohort’s admission system are underway, with an opening date planned for 28 September 2026. The school continues to expand its network with leading schools, universities, international educational institutions, and diplomatic representatives to strengthen its global educational ecosystem.
