With 3 Flagship Programmes, INALUM Wins PROPER Gold 2025
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero) or INALUM has successfully received the PROPER Gold 2025 award, thanks to various efforts in environmental management and business sustainability. There are three flagship programmes that led INALUM to obtain PROPER 2025. Among them is the SIMULTAN Innovation Programme (Simultaneous Multi-Line Tank Operation), which can improve energy efficiency by 289.2 GJ.
Another effort is demonstrated through the OPTIMIST Programme (Optimal Mist System) Reducing Water Usage through the Implementation of High-Pressure Mist Technology in the Tank Temperature Control System, making water usage more efficient by 702 m³. In addition, the CARGO Programme (Carbon Reduction through Gas Optimization) Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GRK) through Optimisation of the Out Pipeline Route at IT Surabaya can reduce emissions by 86.13 tonnes of CO2eq.
INALUM’s President Director, Melati Sarnita, stated that the PROPER Gold 2025 award is a form of appreciation for INALUM’s commitment to the environment and society. INALUM is confident that through collaboration with the community, the company can continue to contribute to keeping the environment green.
“Currently, as one of the green aluminium producers globally, we are very proud to deliver this PROPER Gold figure for society,” she said to CNBC Indonesia on the sidelines of the PROPER Environmental Awards event at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta, written on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Melati explained that currently INALUM is focused on producing aluminium products based on green energy. In this regard, the aluminium products produced by INALUM from the smelter rely on renewable energy with a portion reaching 96%. That clean energy is mostly supplied from the Asahan 2 Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA).
In addition, INALUM has also adopted various new technologies with high efficiency levels to significantly reduce carbon emissions at the company’s smelter plant. This has been implemented by INALUM at the smelter located in Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatra.
Not only that, every year INALUM also actively carries out tree-planting activities in the company’s operational areas, including Lake Toba, to maintain a green environment. Melati hopes that the environmentally insightful programmes that have successfully made INALUM win PROPER Gold can continue.
“The hope is that this can always be made into a measurable programme, so it can be achieved more easily. And we are confident that in the future we can maintain the green aluminium smelter that we always receive every year,” she explained.
