Wiranto Remembers the Late Try Sutrisno: A Complete Statesman
Wiranto, the President’s Special Adviser on Politics and Security, has paid tribute to Retired General Try Sutrisno, Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, who passed away on Monday morning, 2 March 2026.
“Today we have truly lost an important figure. A figure to be emulated, General Retired Try Sutrisno, who passed away this morning,” said Wiranto.
Throughout his military career from Second Lieutenant to full General, Wiranto noted that Try Sutrisno never ceased in his efforts to defend the nation and people. Sutrisno consistently succeeded in completing every mission entrusted to him.
“He was a soldier who, I believe, was truly remarkable in his service. Selfless, tireless, and following his journey from his time as Regional Commander to Commander of the Armed Forces,” he said.
Wiranto also described Try Sutrisno as a complete statesman. As Vice President, Sutrisno was said to have always prioritised the interests of the people.
“And as a statesman, I believe he was a complete statesman. His simplicity, his adherence to the constitution, his struggle that always defended truth and was guided by his convictions,” Wiranto said.
“As Vice President at that time, he always prioritised the interests of the people above personal and factional interests. He was always thinking about how to provide the best for the people and society,” he added.
The sixth Vice President of Indonesia, Retired General Try Sutrisno, died at RSPAD Gatot Subroto Hospital in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026 at approximately 06:58 Western Indonesian Time.
“Correct, the former Vice President Try Sutrisno has passed away,” said retired Lieutenant General of the Indonesian Armed Forces Albertus Budi Sulistya, former head of RSPAD Hospital, when contacted on Monday, 2 March 2026.
According to plans, the body of the late Try Sutrisno will be taken to a funeral home located at Jalan Purwakarta Number 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
