Wiranto, Presidential Special Adviser for Politics and Security, visited the residence of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno to pay his respects. Wiranto reflected on Try Sutrisno’s achievements in the military.

“Today we have truly lost a significant figure, a figure worthy of emulation, Retired General Haji Try Sutrisno, who passed away this morning. We have lost a figure who was always actively engaged in various activities,” Wiranto said at the residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday (2 March 2026).

Wiranto assessed that Try Sutrisno never ceased his efforts throughout his military career. Sutrisno was said to have always succeeded in the missions he undertook.

“There are two points: as a soldier, I believe he was a true soldier who, from the rank of second lieutenant to four-star general, never stopped striving and fighting to uphold his principles of defending the nation and people. He always succeeded in the missions entrusted to him,” he said.

Wiranto mentioned that he maintained regular communication with the deceased. Try Sutrisno, according to Wiranto, often provided him with advice on matters of state.

“I was always in communication with him. Regarding matters concerning state affairs, he always gave me counsel,” he said.

It is noted that Try Sutrisno passed away at RSPAD Gatot Subroto Hospital in Central Jakarta. Try Sutrisno died at the age of 90.

Try Sutrisno passed away at 06:58 WIB on Monday (2 March). His body was taken to his residence on Jalan Purwakarta, Menteng, Central Jakarta, and was to be buried at the National Heroes Cemetery (TMPNU) Kalibata in South Jakarta.
