Winters' allegation against Ginandjar
Winters' allegation against Ginandjar
From Kompas
By nature, I am an Indonesian nationalist, one that adheres to
the five-point state principle Pancasila. However, as far as the
truth is concerned, I will not come to the defense of something
solely on the basis of nationalism. But I will do it for truth
itself. It is because of this principle that, in the context of
Winters' allegation that Coordinating Minister for Economy,
Finance and Industry Ginandjar Kartasasmita may be involved in
practices of corruption, collusion and nepotism with PT Freeport
Indonesia, I can take a fair and clear attitude.
A number of government officials related to this incident have
viewed Winters' statement with the perspective of his being a
foreigner. In fact, if they can take an objective and
intellectual stance, they will find that the main point is not
about Winters being a foreigner but rather the accuracy of his
opinion, along with the availability of supporting evidence. It
means that Winters must be given a chance to substantiate his
allegation against Ginandjar with accurate data.
Independent and scholarly, Winters would not make a statement
without being able to substantiate what he says. Honestly, deep
in my heart, and irrespective of Winters' race and nationality, I
am inclined (I don't know why) to believe his statement.
