Winning paintings to be on auction

JAKARTA (JP): Prize-winning paintings in this year's children's painting contest organized by Garuda Indonesia, the national flag carrier, would be put on auction.

The airline, however, did not disclose when and where the auction would be held.

It said on Monday that the revenue collected from the sale would be donated to needy people. Last year, Garuda collected Rp 160 million from a similar auction.

The final of this year's national-scale competition which carried the theme of "I Love My Motherland" took place on Sunday at Garuda's hangar at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport here with three winners in each of the three categories.

Seven of the nine winners were from Jakarta. The other two were from Bali and Yogyakarta respectively.

Each of the first placed received a Jakarta-Bali return ticket plus a Rp 1.5 million savings account, the second placed also collected the same ticket with Rp 1 million, while the third placed received Rp 500,000 for their savings account. (jun)
