Photos and videos showing a component of a Wings Air propeller blade secured with a cable tie went viral on social media. Wings Air has issued a clarification regarding the matter.

‘The component visible is not part of the main propeller structure, but a protective deicer layer that aids operational performance under certain conditions. The temporary use of a tie on this part is part of the manufacturer’s established maintenance procedures,’ said Wings Air’s Corporate Communications Strategic, Danang Mandala Prihantoro.

Danang added that the procedure follows the Aircraft Maintenance Manual and can only be performed by licensed technicians. After installation, technicians must conduct further checks to ensure all components function normally and do not affect the propeller or overall aircraft performance.

He also stressed that in aviation, the use of cable ties on specific components can be part of measured technical procedures unrelated to flight safety. Every aircraft undergoes rigorous checks before flight, including pre-flight checks and periodic inspections.

The aircraft in question has now undergone further technical verification and maintenance to ensure all safety, security, and airworthiness standards are met before resuming operations.

Wings Air affirmed that aircraft will not operate unless all flight safety requirements are satisfied. All operational decisions, Danang said, are based on technical inspections by authorised personnel in line with established procedures.

‘We appreciate public input and view public concern as crucial in building understanding of the aviation industry’s stringent and layered safety standards,’ Danang added.
