Wing Box Driver Named Suspect in Fatal Crash That Killed Officer Aipda Endang

Police have named the driver of a wing box truck, identified as Y (48), as a suspect in a traffic accident that killed Aipda Endang Karyana, a member of Unit 4 of the Highway Patrol Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police. The driver has also been detained. “The suspect, the driver of the wing box vehicle, has been detained,” said West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Chief, Kompol Reza Hafiz Gumilang, to reporters on Saturday (5/7/2026). Reza stated that Y was drowsy whilst driving. As a result, Y’s vehicle struck a truck and was pushed forward, hitting Aipda Endang who was standing on the chevron markings. “Because he was drowsy, he hit the light truck which had broken down,” he said. Aipda Endang Karyana was previously reported to have fallen in the line of duty on the Joglo Toll Road section of the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) W2 heading towards Pondok Pinang. Aipda Endang was buried today at the Garut Public Cemetery in West Java. The Chief of the Highway Patrol Unit of the Metro Jaya Regional Police Traffic Directorate, AKBP Rieki Indra Brata Manggala, said Endang died on Friday (3/7). Aipda Endang took his last breath at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital. “The cause of death was a traffic accident,” said AKBP Rieki. Rieki explained that at the time, Aipda Endang was assisting a broken-down truck. However, a wing box vehicle approached from behind and collided with the stationary truck. Consequently, the truck was shunted forward and struck Aipda Endang. Rieki noted that Aipda Endang sustained severe injuries to his right leg. “As the late Aipda Endang Karyana was providing assistance to the driver of the light truck with registration number AD-8974-WW, which had broken down mid-journey, suddenly from the direction of Tangerang, an Isuzu wing box vehicle with registration number B-9663-TXW hit the rear tyre of the light truck,” Rieki clarified. “This caused the light truck to be pushed to the left and hit the late Aipda Endang Karyana. The deceased suffered severe injuries, particularly to his right leg,” he continued.
