Wind, Rice Fields, and Pinwheels: Cultural Harmony Preserved by Sriharjo Residents

A variety of shapes and colours of pinwheels were installed in the rice field area, creating a distinctive landscape that attracted visitors’ attention. The Sriharjo Pinwheel Festival is one of the efforts to preserve traditional games while introducing local cultural richness to the public. In addition to being a tourist attraction, the festival involved SMEs offering an array of culinary delights and typical Sriharjo handicrafts. Local pinwheel craft centres also gained promotional space through the festival as an effort to increase the community’s economic value. The Sriharjo Pinwheel Festival 2026 was held in the Bulak Truli area, Sriharjo Village, Imogiri, Bantul Regency, DI Yogyakarta, Saturday (25/7/2026). A total of 63 neighbourhood units participated by displaying thousands of pinwheels decorating the rice field area as an effort to preserve traditional games, strengthen the appeal of the Sriharjo tourist village, and simultaneously drive the community’s economy through the empowerment of SMEs and pinwheel craft centres.
