Wimma fails in 1st round of Wismilak International

SURABAYA (JP): Mimma Chernovita of Indonesia was ousted in her bid to advance to the second round of the Wismilak International women's tennis tournament at the Embong Sawo tennis complex here yesterday.

Mimma was defeated by Dally Randriantefy of Madagascar 1-6 3- 6.

Mima, from Jakarta, advanced to the first round through her victory in the qualifying round. She is listed at 545th spot on the WTA ranking list.

Mima said that she could not develop her play because she felt nervous.

"I was nervous when facing Randriantefy so I couldn't develop my play."

Randriantefy, however, played superbly with thundering serves, forehand and backhand spins.

Using her accurate and tactical placing of the ball, Randriantefy closed the first set easily 6-1.

In the second set, Mimma began playing more aggressively through a series of volleys, spins and forehand. She managed to take a 3-1 lead but Randriantefy leveled the score 3-3.

With the score at 3-3, Mimma ran out of steam and many of her shots either hit the net or went wide of the field.

Randriantefy, seeing Mimma's weakness, kept up the pressure with more aggressive play, winning the set 3-6.

"I played to my maximum but Randriantefy played far better than me. I just lost my stamina," Mimma said.

Randriantefy entered the first round with a wild card.

Another Indonesian, Wynne Prakusya, lost to Dominque Van Roost of Belgium last night 4-6 4-6.

Results: Yuka Yoshida (Jpn) bt Maureen Drake (Can) 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 Natalie Dechy (Fra) bt Park Sung-hee (Kor) 6-2 6-4
