Wilmar Expands Internship Programme to Accelerate the Development of Job-Ready Human Resources
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Wilmar is expanding its internship programme as a step to accelerate the development of job-ready human resources (HR). The programme is designed to bridge industry needs with the competencies of university graduates.
The company is opening wider access for students to gain direct work experience, so readiness to enter the job market can be formed early.
Wilmar’s Head of Human Capital, Erlina Panitri, stated that the internship programme is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen the connection between campus learning and field practice. “Students can be better prepared to enter the workforce after graduation,” said Erlina in an official statement in Jakarta, quoted on Sunday (19/4/2026).
Wilmar offers two internship schemes: regular ones lasting up to three months and competency-based ones lasting up to six months. The competency-based scheme allows students to integrate internship activities with completing their final theses.
Through this scheme, participants gain practical experience as well as an understanding of industry needs. Students are also involved in work activities relevant to their fields of study.
“In addition to learning directly in the field, they can simultaneously complete their academic tasks, making it more efficient and applicable,” said Erlina.
In its implementation, Wilmar collaborates with several educational institutions, including Akademi Kimia Analis (AKA) Bogor, Institut Pertanian Stiper (Instiper) Yogyakarta, Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Politeknik Kelapa Sawit Citra Widya Edukasi, Universitas Widya Mandala Surabaya, and Politeknik Industri Petrokimia Banten.
Collaboration is also expanded with the Ministry of Manpower through the national SiapKerja internship programme to reach more participants and strengthen the workforce development ecosystem.
Erlina revealed that participants who have completed the internship programme generally have an advantage when entering the job market because they already have relevant experience. Some participants even have the opportunity to be directly recruited after completing the programme.
“Internship participants generally can obtain employment in a relatively short time after graduation, and some are directly recruited by the company,” she said.
One internship alumnus, Aziz Fakhruddin Amrullah from the Faculty of Agriculture at IPB, was involved in various operational processes during his programme at Wilmar Group, from receiving paddy to assisting farmers.
He also interacted directly with farmers through the Farmer Engagement Programme (FEP), which enriched his understanding of field conditions and the application of knowledge from university.
“That experience became important preparation in increasing readiness to face the workforce,” said Aziz.
Wilmar will continue to develop the internship programme as part of its contribution to producing superior human resources. This effort is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s workforce amid continuously growing industry needs.
