Will the Xpeng P7 Be Sold in Indonesia This Year?
Jakarta — The Xpeng P7 has the potential to be marketed in Indonesia after receiving positive responses from visitors at the Indonesia International Motor Show 2026. The model on display was The Next P7, the latest electric sedan currently available only in the Chinese market. Hari Arifianto, Xpeng Indonesia’s VP of Marketing, said the company had conducted a consumer-interest survey during the exhibition, and the results showed a fairly positive reception to the sedan. He added that in terms of vehicle dimensions, the model was considered suitable for Indonesian buyers. However, there are several technical considerations before the model is actually marketed. According to Hari, one of the main obstacles is the process of converting from left-hand drive to right-hand drive, which can take quite a long time, up to 18 months. ‘We must also ensure consumer protection, so we must not introduce the P7 and then have its variant pulled from the market not long after,’ he said. Hari added that the sedan market in Indonesia remains relatively small compared with other segments. According to data from Gabungan Industri Kendaraan Bermotor Indonesia (Gaikindo), around 60 per cent of national car sales are still dominated by MPVs and SUVs. Therefore, Xpeng is still considering whether to bring the P7 or to focus on introducing SUV and MPV models that are seen as having greater potential in the Indonesian market.
