Will the PFII Be Located in Bali's SEZ? Here's the Response from Airlangga's Deputy
The Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, revealed that the government has not yet officially determined the area that will serve as the Indonesia International Financial Centre (PFII).
He stated this when meeting journalists at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Office on Friday (3/8/2026). Previously, the government had been considering placing the PFII in Bali, specifically within one of its Special Economic Zones (SEZ). Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto had conducted a site visit to these locations some time ago.
“Not yet, we do not know yet. The Minister has indeed visited Bali. There are only two SEZs in Bali,” said Susiwijono.
“But the chosen location for the PFII has not been decided,” Susiwijono emphasised.
Despite the lack of a final decision, Susiwijono ensured that the PFII will be a National Strategic Project (PSN) due to its specialised nature, should it be situated within an SEZ.
“By regulation, an SEZ automatically holds the status of a National Strategic Project. An SEZ simultaneously holds the status of a PSN,” he explained.
Previously, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the area for the PFII is not designed to be limited to a single location. According to him, the PFII has the potential to be developed across two or three different points, most likely in Bali.
When asked whether the PFII would be built in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), Purbaya admitted he could not be certain. However, he assessed that IKN is currently too quiet, leading him to estimate that IKN would not be the location for the PFII.
“As of now, I do not know. (IKN?) Perhaps not, it is too quiet in IKN,” Purbaya replied.
