Will the govt ever get serious?
Will the govt ever get serious?
From Rakyat Merdeka
We criticized former president Abdurrahman Wahid for frequently making statements rather than managing the government effectively.
The same can be said about Megawati Soekarnoputri. Some of the Cabinet sessions, lasting until the wee hours, have been a disappointment, as no clear decisions are made in relation to the economic management of the country or what the political stance is on the attacks of the United States and its allies in Afghanistan.
If the government continues to behave this way, offenders will make good use of the situation to enrich themselves and their cronies.
To date we have not seen any sign of government policies that will seriously handle the corruption that is rampant everywhere, for example, in the state-owned oil company, the State Logistics Agency, the courts, the offices of the attorney general and all other state-owned companies.
We are also not clear about the activities of Kwik Kian Gie at the National Development Planning Board and Laksamana Sukardi for state enterprises.
The government seems to be repeating the same mistakes by letting each leader make his own agenda. In the meantime, Vice President Hamzah Haz is striving to secure the electorate for the 2004 election.
All this makes us ask the question: Who is seriously leading the country?
